2017 Transgender Data Dashboard

Using data from the California Department of Public Health’s 2017 HIV Surveillance Report, we have developed this data dashboard that provides HIV surveillance data visualizations on how the epidemic impacted transgender individuals in California.

In 2017, 2% (77) of new diagnoses were among transgender people. Of those, 94% (72) are transgender women and 6% (5) are transgender men
In 2017, 1,848 of people living with diagnosed HIV infection were transgender. Of those, 1,790 are transgender women, 53 were transgender men, and 5 were other gender identities

 

 

  1. Persons who had at least one CD4, viral load, or HIV-1 genotype test during the calendar year were considered engaged in care
  2. Persons who had two or more CD4, viral load, or HIV-1 genotype tests that were performed at least 3 months apart during the calendar year were considered retained in care
  3. Persons whose most recent HIV viral load test result during the calendar year ≤ 200 copies/ml were considered virally suppressed
