Addressing Medical Mistrust in African American Communities

The UCLA Center for HIV, Identification, Prevention and Treatment Services (CHIPTS) would like to invite you to attend an event entitled, “Addressing Medical Mistrust in African American Communities: Implications for HIV and Other Conditions” on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 from 8:30am-1pm at St. Anne’s, located at 155 N. Occidental Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90026. (Breakfast begins at 8 a.m.) The goals of this event are to:

• Help providers understand historical experiences behind medical mistrust in the African American community.
• Highlight the effects of medical mistrust on HIV and health outcomes in the African American community.
• Provide attendees with skills and resources to interact within this community to encourage health seeking behaviors and improve health outcomes.

Speakers and panelists from both the community and HIV health field will address these objectives and will discuss strategies for strengthening patient-provider relationships and improving health outcomes.  The intended audience includes clinicians, service providers, community members and anyone working on HIV prevention and treatment, including those from CBOs/ASOs, HIV clinics, public health departments, and academic institutions.   CEUs will be offered: Courses qualify for 4.5 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
